Night two included the following events: 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and the 800 freestyle relay.
200yd Medley Relay
Women
Virginia Tech kicked off the night with a win in the medley relay. Maggie Gruber (25.48), Weronika Paluszek (27.87), Fiona Donnelly (24.33) and Katarina Filova (22.55) teamed up to finish in 1:40.23.
Liberty was right behind in second at 1:40.39. The quartet of Kendall Hough, Emilie Kaufman, Jess Reinhardt and Meghan Babcock split 25.70, 27.54, 24.39 and 22.76.
On William and Mary’s fourth place relay, anchor Megan Howard split 22.13 for the Tribe.
Men
South Carolina had the win with Jay Warner, 22.02, Kevin Leithold, 24.13, Sam Lynch, 21.66, and Eric Lethander, 20.13, finishing in 1:27.95.
William and Mary men were second, with great splits from Justin Barden, 21.76 on the butterfly, and Billy Russell on the freestyle at 20.14. The team finished at 1:30.08.
UConn was third in 1:31.17.
400yd IM
Women
Two women from South Carolina registered NCAA B standard tonight. Junior Victoria Mitchell had the win at 4:17.20, and her senior teammate Abby Galbreath was right behind at 4:17.32.
Their teammate Rachael Schaffer rounded out a sweep for third, 4:23.19.
Men
Freshman Robert Owen from Virginia Tech held on for the win over Matt Navata from South Carolina. Owen finished in 3:55.09, and Navata in second with a charging last 100 yards, in 3:55.51.
100yd Butterfly
Women
Howard from William and Mary continues to have a strong meet with a win in the 100 butterfly. She finished at 54.03, an NCAA B standard.
Liberty’s Reinhardt was second at 54.22, also a B standard. And Virginia Tech’s Donnelly in third at 54.28, B standard.
VT’s Grubber finished at 54.36 this morning, which was a B standard, but was off that tonight finishing in 54.73 for third.
Men
Hokie’s Morgan Latimer and Nick Tremols hit B standards when they finished at 47.02 and 48.27 for first and third, respectively. Finishing second for South Carolina’s Leithold at 47.73, a B standard for himself.
200yd Freestyle
Women
Jessica Hespeler was the only sub 1:50 swimmer in the field, finishing first at 1:48.50.
Virginia Tech nearly swept the final heat, taking places 1-5, plus 7th.
Men
The top five men in the field registered NCAA B standards tonight in the 200 freestyle. Jan Switkowski, a freshman from VT, was first at 135.06.
His teammates Owen Burns was second at 1:36.57 and fourth with Lucas Bureau at 1:37.53.
South Carolina got in for third and fifth with Michael Flach, 1:37.30, and Gera Rodriguez, 1:37.62.
100yd Breaststroke
Women
Weron Paluszek put up a solid time in the 100 breaststroke for the Hokies. Her time of 1:00.32, will be a strong time in the nation after all the invites are completed this weekend.
Macken Stewart and Taylor Ellis from VT hit B times, finishing second at 1:01.81 and fourth at 1:02.24.
Liberty’s swimmer Emilie Kaufman was third, with a B standard, finishing in 1:02.20.
Men
William and Mary had a victory with Andrew Strait in the 100 breaststroke. His winning time was a B cut of 55.15.
Kauffman from South Carolina was second at 55.46, and Emmett Dignan from VT in third, 55.60.
100yd Backstroke
Women
Gruber found her way to the top in this event, finishing under 55 in 54.69, also a B standard.
Ohio had a strong swim despite coaching changes with Addy Gerguson finishing second in 55.18. Holly Harper from VT rounded out the top three in 55.20.
Men
Latimer had another strong swim, and another B standard for himself, with a winning time of 47.74 in the 100 backstroke to end the night of individual swims.
His teammate Collin Higgins was third, 48.33, a B standard. Warner from South Carolina was second, sub 48 for a B cut of 47.92.
800yd Freestyle Relay
Women
Virginia Tech went 1-2 in final event of the night. The A team of Donnelly, Jessica Hespeler, Emily Ryczek and Margaret Parcell finished in 7:23.33.
Men
In the most impressive swim of the night, the men from Virginia Tech put up an NCAA Automatic Time in the 800 freestyle relay. Latimer, Burns, Bureau, Switkowski all punched their tickets to Austin, Texas in March with a winning time of 6:23.96.
The A standard was 6:24.19.
