Prelims of the Illinois Girls’ High School State Championship meet is in the book, and there were some very fast times on the board already, especially in the freestyle events.
Texas commit Mimi Schneider from Fenwick looked very good in her sprint races. She took the top seed in the 50 free with a 22.66, and is also the top seed in the 100 fly in 53.62.
She also split a 48.96 on the anchor leg of Oak Park’s 400 free relay as they took the top seed in 3:26.74.
Two swimmers were under 51 seconds in the 100 free. Mundelein’s Erin Falconer is the top seed in 50.38, and Harvard commit Gabby Sims from Downers North is 2nd in 50.98. Sims took the top seed in the 100 back in 54.18.
Falconer also took the top seed in the 200 free with a 1:47.46 earlier in the meet, over a second faster than her next-closest competitor and just three-tenths shy of Kelly McNichol’s 2005 State Record.
Four swimmers were better than 1:03 in the 100 yard breaststroke, led by a trio of seniors. Fenwick’s Paulina Kaminski was the top seed in 1:02.36, followed by New Trier’s Kara Lucenti (1:02.88), St. Charles’ Shea Hoyt (1:02.90), and New Trier freshman Ingrid Wall (1:02.94).
