WKU Swim Continues Strong Showing At Hilltopper Open

As the Hilltopper Open continues on, the Western Kentucky University swimming team continued to put up record-breaking swims in day two of the competition.

After setting five Bill Powell Natatorium records in the first day, the Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers set five more, beginning with the men’s 200 medley relay of Seth Musser, TJ Bland, Heitor Rodrigues and Aymeric Le Corno completing the event in 1:29.87.

Loui Little and Le Corno both broke the pool record time in the 400 IM, but Little would take the top spot with 3:55.01, defeating his own time set in 2011 of 3:58.93. Claire Conlon posted a new record in the 100 breast after finishing with the fastest time of 1:02.02.

Both 800 free relay teams also had new pool records. The women’s team of Susan Marquess, Michelle Craddock, Natalie Lenderman and Allie Duff hit the wall in 7:27.39 while the men’s squad consisting of Russell Bryant, Jess Musser, Cody Reul and Neal Rushing finished the event in6:38.50, almost five seconds faster than the previous record.

Multiple swimmers took off significant time from the morning prelims to the night’s finals for first-place finishes. Duff took off over seven seconds in the 400 IM while Craddock and Bryant finished over three seconds faster in their respective 200 free events.

The Hilltopper Open concludes on Saturday with morning prelims beginning at 9:30 a.m. and finals later in the day at 5:30 p.m.
