Greece Tops Medal Table Through Night 1 Of European Championships

Greece currently tops the medal table after earning one gold and bronze medal. Despite Greece leading the medal table, Hungary has the most total medals with four, including three silver.

Greece’s lone gold came from the men’s 400 IM where  Apostolos Papastamos swam to a national record in 4:10.83, also picking up the Olympic Qualifying time that stands at a 4:12.50. Greece will look to pick up more gold medals tomorrow night as Stergios Marios Bilas is the top seed in the men’s 50 fly.

Two of Hungary’s medals came in the men’s 400 IM where Balazs Hollo won silver in a 4:11.51 ahead of Gabor Zombori who won bronze in a 4:11.70.

The final two gold medals of the night came in the relays. Israel captured gold in the women’s 4×200 free relay swimming to a national record. The Lithuanian men also swam to a national record and gold in the 4×200 free relay.

With competition starting today, there were not many medals to give out but tomorrow night should feature many more countries on the medal table.
