Cate Campbell Elected To AOC Athlete’s Commission

Cate Campbell has represented Australia proudly at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic games collecting a total of three medals; 2012 gold in the 4 x 100 freestyle relay and 2008 double bronze in the 50 freestyle and 4 x 100 freestyle relay, because of that success, experience and the leadership she has shown as part of the Australian swim team she has now been selected to be part of the Australian Olympic Committee’s Athlete’s Commission.

The purpose of the Australian Athlete’s Commission is have an athlete body that can “advise the AOC Executive on all matters relating to the Olympic Movement from an athlete’s perspective.” (as stated by the Australian Olympic Committee).

Currently the commission is made up of:

CHAIR: Kim Crow (Rowing)

DEPUTY CHAIR: Paul Murray (Cross Country Skiing)

  • Alana Boyd (Athletics)
  • Cate Campbell (Swimming)
  • Steve Hooker (Athletics)
  • Anna Meares (Cycling)
  • Lauren Mitchell (Gymnastics)
  • Jenny Owens (Freestyle Skiing)
  • James Tomkins (Rowing)
  • Ken Wallace (Canoe/Kayak)
  • Loudy Wiggins (Diving)

“I’m very honoured to be considered and accepted onto the Athletes’ Commission,” Campbell said.

“I am joining a group of truly world class athletes and I hope that together we can make sport more enjoyable for everyone.”

“We only get to spend time with the other sports every four years so this is a great opportunity to understand more about them and see how we fit in. Seeing how other sports operate and deal with issues can often help give insight into your own sport so I think it can only be positive for swimming to be a part of the Commission.”

Campbell was asked to be part of the commission because of the qualities already mentioned, but the commission’s chair also felt it necessary that swimming be represented, “Swimming is an integral part of our Olympic Team and we thought swimming should be represented,” dual Olympic medallist in rowing, Crow said. “Cate will be a fantastic addition to the Commission.”
