Bulgaria’s Lyubomir Epitropov broke his own National Record as he tied for the European Title in the men’s 200 breaststroke on the 4th night of competition in Serbia. Epitropov swam to a 2:09.45, faster than his previous record of a 2:09.68.
Epitropov’s old record came from back at the 2020(1) Tokyo Olympics when he swam that time for 14th in prelims. He went on to finish 15th in semifinals with a 2:10.33.

Epitropov was fairly consistent with his race today compared to three years ago on the front and back end. The biggest difference came in the middle 100 as he was slightly slower on the 2nd 50 but made up for that and more on the 3rd 50.
In addition to his consistency, he also came home strong. Epitropov was only 6th at the 50 and 100 marks but moved up to 3rd at the 150 mark before then tying for the win at the final touch.
Epitropov’s swim was also significant as he put Bulgaria on the medal table as they had not yet won a medal this week in Serbia. He now sits at #22 in the World in the event this season.
