Ron Polonsky broke his own Israeli National Record swimming to a 1:57.01 in semifinals of the men’s 200 IM. Polonsky broke his previous record of a 1:57.99 from semifinals of the 2022 World Championships.
Polonsky finished 9th in semifinals at the 2022 World Championships, missing finals by 0.25.

Polonsky was faster on all but the butterfly leg today. The biggest difference came on the breaststroke leg when he swam 0.42 seconds faster. This swim was his 2nd national record of the week as he also set a new Israeli record in the men’s 100 breast during prelims with a 1:00.07.
Polonsky’s swim now moves up to #13 in the World this season. He previously sat outside of the top 30 with his old season best of a 1:59.04 from the Pro Series stop in San Antonio in April.
Polonsky was not the only swimmer to break an Isreali national record tonight. Kristian Pitshugin earned bronze in the men’s 50 breast in a 27.02, faster than the old national record of a 27.05 that Itay Goldfaden swam in 2021.
