Hugo Gonzalez Leads Spanish Roster For 2024 Olympic Games

The Spanish swimming federation has revealed its lineup for next month’s Olympic Games taking place in Paris, France.

25-year-old world champion Hugo Gonzalez leads the charge, having qualified for 3 individual events, the most out of all the constituents.

Gonzalez made the grade in the men’s 200m IM, 100m back and 200m back while the Cal swimmer has also been named to the nation’s men’s 4x100m medley relay.

Carlos Garach also qualified for 3 events, although just 2 will occur in the pool. The 19-year-old qualified in the 800m and 1500m free and the 10k open water race.

Emma Carrasco and Carmen Weiler earned bids on the women’s side in 2 individual events. The former will take on the 200m/400m IM while the latter is set to race the 100m/200m back.

Spain was medal-less in the pool 3 years ago at the postponed 2020 Olympic Games. The highest finisher came in the form of Mireia Belmonte‘s 4th place in the women’s 400m IM.

We reported how 33-year-old Belmonte missed qualifying for her 4th Olympic Games.
