Gkolomeev, Siskos, Ntountounaki Head Up Greek Olympic Roster

The Greek Swimming Federation has revealed its 17-strong lineup of pool and open water swimmers set to represent the nation next month at the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

30-year-old Olympic veteran Kristian Gkolomeev leads the men’s sprinters, having qualified for the 50m free along with U23 Championships gold medalist Stergios-Marios Bilas. Bilas is also on the roster for the men’s 4x100m free relay.

Anna Ntountounaki is among the 3 women who made the lineup, set to compete in the 100m fly and mixed medley relay. Theodora Drakou and Georgia Damasioti also qualified with the former joining Ntountounaki on the mixed medley relay.

Newly minted national record holders Apostolos Siskos and Dimitrios Markos will look to do damage in their respective events.

Siskos fired off a new Greek standard of 1:55.42 at this year’s European Championships to become the nation’s first-ever sub-1:56 200m backstroker.

Markos wreaked havoc across the freestyle events in Belgrade, establishing new Greek records in the 200m (1:46.46), 400m (3:47.44) and 800m (7:48.59).

Greece was medal-less at the postponed 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Noutounaki, the sole Greek female who competed, placed 9th in the 100m fly. The men’s highest finisher in the pool was Gkolomeev who placed 5th in the 50m free.
