Following the 4 Speedo Sectionals meets that took place around the country last week, there are 3 more going on this week, including one at the Janet Evans Swim Complex in Fullerton, CA. The first day of the Fullerton Sectionals featured the 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, women’s 1500 free and men’s 800 free.

30-year-old Leif-Henning Kluever (Irvine Novaquatics) won the men’s 100 free with a 51.41. Kluever swam at Wingate, where he graduated from in 2017. He was an NCAA Division II All-American, specializing in a number of events, including the 100/200 back, 200 IM, and 100/200/500 free.

20-year-old Matthew Chai, a Cal swimmer who is representing his home club of Fullerton Aquatic Sports Team, won the men’s 800 free in 8:18.90. Chai clocked his career best of 8:01.26 at the US Olympic Trials last month.

Irvine Novaquatics 17-year-old Kaitlyn Nguyen won the women’s 200 breast decisively, clocking a 2:30.46. Nguyen posted her career best of 2:29.77 about two weeks ago at the Los Angeles Invite. She’s a recruit for USC’s freshmen class of 2025.

San Ramon Valley Aquatics 16-year-old Abir Bhatia swam a 2:23.90 to win the men’s 200 breast last night. Bhatia came into the meet with a career best of 2:46.93 in the LCM 200 breast, which he had swum back in June of 2022. While that LCM 200 breast PB was quite old, Bhatia did post his career best of 2:07.87 in the yards 200 breast in February of this year.

Tiffany Kim, a 16-year-old out of Irvine Novaquatics, won the women’s 200 fly in 2:17.37. With the performance, Kim chipped 0.40 seconds off her career best, which she swam two weeks ago at the LA Invite.
