Trials-Qualifying Sprinter Marshall Odom (2024) Commits to Utah

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Marshall Odom from Friendswood, Texas, has committed to swim and study at the University of Utah beginning in the fall of 2024.

“I am excited to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Utah.  I would like to thank God, my family, especially my parents and siblings for all of the sacrifices they have made to help me get here, the coaches and HEAT teammates, friends and everyone who has supported me along the way.  I would also like to thank Coach Jonas and his staff for giving me this opportunity. I am honored and can’t wait to get started.  Go Utes!”

Odom finished up his prep career at Friendswood High School in February with a pair of state titles at the 2024 Texas UIL 5A State Swimming and Diving Championships. He won the 50 free with 19.96 and the 100 fly with 47.61 –both lifetime bests– and clocked a PB of 45.07 leading off the 400 free relay. His times were significant improvements over 2023, when he earned PBs of 20.60 and 49.05 in his individual events, winning the 100 fly and finishing 2nd in the 50 free.

Odom does his club swimming with HydroElite Aquatics Team. He had a big meet at Lewisville Sectionals in March, winning the 50 free, placing 2nd in the 100 fly, and finished 5th in the 100 free and 100 back. He left the meet with new times in all four events.

In May, Odom took 1.2 seconds off a month-old PB in the 50-meter freestyle to qualify for 2024 Olympic Team Trials with 22.49. He went 23.35 at Trials to finish 78th, but he time-trialed the 100 free and earned a PB of 52.93.

Now that Texas has moved to the SEC, and Utah, along with former Pac-12 rivals Arizona, Arizona State, and Colorado, are joining BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, TCU, and West Virginia, the Big 12 will be totally transformed this fall. Nonetheless, Odom’s time in the 50 free would have made the A final and his 100 free and 100 fly times would have made the B finals at last year’s conference championships.

Odom will join fellow Texans Jones Lambert and Gannon Flynn, along with Breck Titus, Cole Bettis, Kacper Płoszka, Layton Sealman, Matthew Sexton, Miles Cratsenberg, and Owen Carlsen on the Utes’ roster in the fall.

Best SCY times:

  • 100 fly – 47.53
  • 50 free – 19.89
  • 100 free – 43.86
  • 100 back – 49.3
