Several members of the NC State swimming & diving team are set to begin the 2013 European Short Course Championships at the Jyske Bank BOXEN. Current Wolfpack freshmen Andreas Schiellerup and Lotta Nevalainen, along with sophomore Simonas Bilis will take part in the event. After capturing two national championships at the Denmark Nationals last month in his native Denmark, Schiellerup is slated to race in the 50 freestyle, as well as the 50 and 100 backstroke events. In his most recent event at the 2013 Nike Cup, the Birkerod, Denmark, native established a new school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 46.61.
A native of Imatra, Finland, Nevalainen is scheduled to compete in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke and the 50 butterfly. She currently ranks second on the squad with a time of 50:49 in the women’s 100 freestyle, while ranking third with a time of 23.11 in the 50 freestyle.
Bilis, a native of Panevezys, Lithuania, will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events. The sophomore currently ranks third on the squad with a time of 44.13 in the 100 freestyle, as his time meets the required time standard for an NCAA ‘B’ cut.
