Swimming Australia is currently seeking applications for the position of National Open Water Coach and Performance Manager to oversee the Open Water Swimming Program.
As a country surrounded by water and known for its vast stretches of coastline, Australia has great potential to succeed internationally in Open Water Swimming with a clear focus on the Olympic 10km Marathon distance.
Since its inception as an Olympic event in Beijing, Australia has sent open water competitors to the last two Olympic Games and is looking to continue this trend into Rio, Tokyo 2020 and beyond.
Established in partnership with Surf Life Saving Australia, this new role will ensure Australia continues to advance in open water swimming and will combine the knowledge and talent of both sports to develop a pathway to Olympic success.
Reporting to the Director of High Performance, the National Open Water Coach and Performance Manager will be responsible for providing technical leadership and advice on all aspects of the event including talent identification, youth development and the senior elite program.
As well as this, the successful candidate will be required to take on the role of Open Water Head Coach at events and camps, including team selection and talent identification activities.
To complement the new position, a Technical Panel has been established that will provide support to the domestic and overseas activities of national senior, youth and development teams and talent identification programs to ensure the OWS pathways remain evident.
Swimming Australia’s Director of High Performance Michael Scott said the Open Water Coach and Performance Manager will be a key member of a newly established OWS Technical Panel.
“The new Open Water Coach and Performance Manager will work to improve the pathway for potential open water swimmers in Australia, who ultimately have the ability to achieve consistent podium performances in open water swimming at international benchmark events.”
