The first night of competition is complete in Florida at YMCA Nationals. Highlighting the night was Shane Eckler of Ridley YMCA as he swam to a 50.01 in his 100 free win. Eckler, a Notre Dame commit, touched in a 50.01 to win by almost a second and a half.

Eckler posted a best time in his win as his previous best was a 51.58 that he swam this morning. He came into the meet with a best time of a 51.78 that he swam at year ago. Although after US Trials, to put the time into perspective, Eckler would have just missed the US Trials cut as that stood at a 49.99 for this past June.

16 year old Chase Grisi of ME Lyons YMCA won the boys 200 fly in a 2:05.59, winning by over three seconds as AJ Gomez was 2nd in a 2:08.65. Grisi entered today with a lifetime best of a 2:08.44 that he swam at this meet a year ago.

Drew Gaerthofner swam to a win in the boys 50 breast clocking a 28.24 to win by over half a second as John Reese Taylor was 2nd in a 28.91.

The girls side of the meet was highlighted by 15 year old Serena Dickey who was 2nd in the 200 fly in a 2:16.71. That was about a three and a half second drop from her previous best of a 2:20.35 that she swam at this meet a year ago. Dickey finished behind Billie Sherratt who won in a 2:16.06. Sherratt was about half a second off her lifetime best and is headed to Kentucky this fall.

Katie Lawrence of Wyckoff Family Y who swam a 56.79 in the 100 free to win the event. Lawrence was just off her best time of a 56.52 that she swam at this meet a year ago. Behind Lawrence was Stanford commit Emily Thompson who clocked a 56.97. Thompson is typically more known as an IMer and butterflyer but will show off her versatility this week as she also is entede in the 200 breast, 100 fly, 50 fly, and 50 free.

Grace Hunt swam to a win in the 50 breast touching in a 33.19, just off her time of a 33.12 from prelims. Corine Rieskamp was 2nd tonight in a 33.36.
