SwimMAC 200 Yard Medley Relay Breaks NAG Record in 200 Yard Medley Relay

A group of swimmers from NCAP tore through the National Age Group 15-18 girls’ relay records last week at the senior version of Winter Nationals. One of the two they didn’t get, however, has been broken to begin night 2 of the Winter Junior National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The group of Kathleen BakerMaija RosesAlyssa Marsh, and Lauren Rhodes combined for a 1:39.27 to claim the all-time mark. That broke the Meet Record, set by an almost entirely different SwimMAC foursome at last year’s meet (Baker was the only carryover), and also broke the Aquajets’ National Age Group Record of 1:39.40.

That old NAG Record was swum with a group that included Rachel Bootsma, Abby Duncan, Hailey Szews, and Tess Behrens: all of whom went on and are now having impacts at top-15 NCAA programs.

The splits:

  • Baker – 24.42 (backstroke)
  • Roses – 28.08 (breaststroke)
  • Marsh – 23.93 (butterfly)
  • Rhodes – 22.84 (freestyle)

It can be hard for many swim fans to keep track of what is a “good time” in a 50 yard race, so for some perspective: Baker’s split would have ranked 2nd in the A-Final at NCAA’s last year (behind only Bootsma), though they probably wouldn’t have scored as a relay.

Roses and Rhodes are the two moving on from this group (SwimMAC is so deep, they might break it again next year anyway), as the former has signed with Cal and the latter has signed with NC State.
