Canadian age-group record holder Evan White has broken another age group record, this time in the short course 200m butterfly. White swam to an impressive 1:56.69 to break the boy’s 15-17 short course 200m butterfly record at the Thunderbolt Junior Invitational in Oregon (previously the Paul Bergen Invitational). Now, including this result, White has four national age-group records. He holds the long course 100m fly and 200m IM records in the 15-17 year-old category as well as the short course 200m IM in addition to this 200m fly.

The record that White broke was a long standing one, set by Adam Sioui in 1999 with a time of 1:57.66.

With an incredible 2012-2013 season which included the three records he set previously, it looks as though White’s setting himself up for an impressive 2013-2014 as well. As one of the top Canadian recruits, White recently committed to the University of Michigan for next year, a school that has had lots of success with middle distance and IM swimmers.

White will be swimming the 200m breaststroke tonight after qualifying in fourth position during this mornings prelim session. The Oakville Aquatic Club swimmer swam a personal best of 2:15.75 to take the spot going into tonight’s finals. White will be swimming the 200m IM and 100m fly tomorrow.

Full meet results can be found here.
