The difference maker today was his final 150, with the biggest difference coming on the final 50 as he was over half a second faster today.
He was behind his record pace by about two seconds for much of the race but slowly began to inch closer to his record, splitting slightly faster from about the 1050 meter mark on. He notably was out in a 7:21.00 at the halfway point today, about two seconds off his 7:19.27 from July.
Tuncelli finished 5th in the race today, just over a second and a half off of the podium. His time of a 14:41.22 notably was just off of the 14:40.92 that it took to medal in podium, while it took a 14:39.63 today.
He has dropped almost 13 seconds off his best time in the last year now. Coming into the season, his best time was a 14:54.16 from July 2023.
Jaoudi is from Tunisia, not Algeria btw
I hope it turns out better for him than Grgic.
wont be long before he crosses the rubicon
need him to meet the sharpshooter
How old is he? When does he age up? Might be helpful information when discussing WJRs
Born 30 Aug 2007
So currently 16, turns 17 in just over 3 weeks
He will turn 17 on August 30.
So he’s 17 for WJR purposes.
And will have all of 2025 to set new WJRs
With the trajectory of Turkish age grouper prodigies, I wouldn’t be surprised if he went to Georgia Tech or something and disappeared from swimming
The previous record holder Franko Grgić basically disappeared from the sport after that swim…
I believe he got injured
He will continue to train in Turkey. He will be getting a lot of money and support for next olympics.
I kept an eye on him throughout. Rowdy and Hicks really did a disservice to the audience by not mentioning him
Well, there was a lot going on…
Distance Popovici indeed
