On the heels of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, gold medalist Tom Dean of Great Britain has revealed he will be joining the cast of Strictly Come Dancing.
The new season of the television dance contest, which partners professional dancers with celebrities, is scheduled to air this fall.
24-year-old Dean isn’t the only swimmer to have joined the cast, as teammate Adam Peaty was a member of the 19th edition of the show in 2021. He was the 6th dancer to be eliminated out of 14 contestants.
As for Dean, the freestyle ace stated, “I am taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2024! You may have heard me accidentally say it poolside first… but now I can officially talk about how excited I am to get stuck into something new, meet some brilliant people and get dancing. Bring it on!”
Dean became the first British man to win 200m freestyle Olympic gold in over 100 years when he topped the podium in Tokyo. This time around in Paris he was a member of the men’s 4x200m free relay which repeated gold from 3 years ago and also placed 5th in the 200m IM.
“I thought it would be really exciting to try something a bit different. I’ll be doing that and straight back into training after it. It’s something to look forward to,” Dean said of his willingness to take on celebrity dancing. (The Independent)
Additional celebrities announced for Strictly Come Dancing 2024 include actress Toyah Willcox, singer Shayne Ward and bobsledder Montell Douglas.
