Sandpipers of Nevada’s Dru Bauman to attend California Lutheran University (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Dru Bauman, a Sandpipers of Nevada swimmer, will attend California Lutheran University come fall. Bauman has swam for the Sandpipers for 12 years under coach Jake Des Roches, and is primarily a distance freestyler and IMer.

I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at California Lutheran University! Thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates for the support that has gotten me to this point! Thank you to the CLU coaches for giving me the opportunity to swim at the college level. Go Regals!

Bauman attended Palo Verde High School, and recently swam at the Nevada 5A Southern Championships. There, she PBd in the 500 free to place 3rd in 5:12.55 and 9th in the 200 IM in 2:13.30. With those swims, she helped Palo Verde win their first regional championship since 2019.

Best Times SCY

  • 1650 Free – 18:24.80
  • 1000 Free – 11:01.77
  • 500 Free – 5:12.55
  • 400 IM – 4:46.71
  • 200 IM – 2:13.30

California Lutheran is a DIII school and competes in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). At the 2024 SCIAC Championships, the California Lutheran women placed 5th out of 9 teams. The Regals look to continue their upward trajectory after also finishing 5th in 2023, but improving on their 7th place finish in 2022.

With Bauman’s arrival on campus, California Lutheran will potentially add a 3x finalist as at the 2024 SCIAC championships, times of 5:18.54 in the 500 free, 5:04.88 in the 400 IM, and 2:15.00 in the 200 IM made it back for a night swim. Additionally, to score in the 1650, a timed final, it took a time of 19:01.31.

Along with Bauman, California Lutheran will welcome Maia Ciccarello and Laine Gilluly in their class of 2028. Gilluly, who hails from Montana, is similarly a distance freestyler, with bests of 10:52.53/18:19.55 in the 1000/1650 frees. Ciccarello, on the other hand, is a sprint freestyler.
