Associate Head Coach Donny Brush Resigns from Indiana

Indiana’s Associate Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Swimming Donny Brush has resigned from his position, leaving the program after eight-and-a-half seasons in Bloomington. He will take a position with the Fishers Area Swimming Tigers in suburban Indianapolis. He recently received the promotion to Associate Head Coach after spending four years as the ‘assistant head coach for the coordination of training and student athlete development.’

“Donny’s a really good friend of mine, and always will be,” Looze said of his departed assistant. “He’s getting back into club coaching at Fisher’s with his friend and mentor Jay Chambers, and will be one of the best club coaches in the country…I’m confident that he’ll slip right back into that world and do a fantastic job. This was just good timing for him.”

Brush’s primary role this season is as the lead coach for the women’s program and working with the middle distance group, after spending the 2012-2013 season working with Indiana’s sprint group. That sprint group last season broke school records in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay, and was a significant contributor to the Hoosiers’ 9th-place finish at NCAA’s: their highest in over 30 years.

Prior to coming to Indiana, Brush was an assistant at Longhorn Aquatics from 2004-2005; as the head age-group coach and senior assistant for the famed Carmel Swim Club; as the head coach of the Newburgh Sea Creatures from 2000-2002; and as the co-head coach for the Terre Haute Aquatic Club from 1993-1996.

Looze says that he’s going to take his time to find the right replacement for Brush, whether that be immediately or during the off-season.

“It can be hard to find a coach of the quality we want who would be willing to leave their program mid-season,” Looze said, “but at the same time, when you find the right person, you don’t want to wait on them.”

Brush will begin coaching with FAST officially on January 6th.

A call to Brush on Sunday morning went straight to voice mail, and a request for comment was not answered as of posting.

“Donny’s a really good friend of mine, and always will be,” Looze said of his departed assistant. REALLY? I would love to hear what Brush says about their friendship. I would bet my next paycheck that they reason Brush left is because Looze does not know how to lead or how to treat people. Looze is a used car salesman and has always been about himself. His best friend is Ray Looze and if he does not change his ways he will be his only friend. Good for Brush.
Look for Chambers and Brush to embark on a journey of breaking the streak of the Carmel HS girls State Championships. Remember, both have been a part of it and… Read more »

Jay Chambers would be a good coach at IU. Swap those roles with Brush. Jay has been a very good club coach for just about forever, and would do some excellent things with IU.

Very surprised. Can’t say enough great things about Donny. Best of luck!
