Age Group Records Rewritten At Polish National Championships

One senior and 17 new age group records were set at the Polish Short Course National Championships which were held in Ostrowiec from December 19-22nd.

Tomasz Polewka set the only new senior mark in the men’s 50 backstroke winning the event in a time of 23.62 breaking 200 backstroke European Champion Radoslaw Kawecki’s record of 23.75 set earlier this year.

By the end of the competition though there were 17 new age group records set.

Seventeen year old Wojdak Wojciech broke the record for both the 17 and 18 year olds in the men’s 800 freestyle recording a 7:44.59 and he also set a new mark for 17 year olds in the 400 freestyle putting up a time of 3:45.26. His times rank Wojciech as the top 17-18 year old in Europe in both events.

Matthew Arndt, David Negro and Michal Chudy also posted times that put them on top of the European rankings in the 15-16 year old category. Arndt set a record in the men’s 400 freestyle for 15 year olds finishing in a time of 3:53.56, Nergo broke the 16 year olds record in the 100 backstroke posting a time of 53.30 while Chudy set a new mark in the 16 year old 50 butterfly posting a 24.24.

Jan Holub broke the 17 year olds record in both the men’s 50 and 100 freestyle, posting a 21.95 in the 50, which ranks him second in Europe for 17 year olds and 48.50, which puts him fourth in the continent.

Fourteen year old Casper Stokowski set new marks in the men’s 100 backstroke (56.67), 200 backstroke (2:04.25) and 50 butterfly (25.24)

In the women’s event 16 year old Sztandera Dominica set the record for 16,17 and 18 year olds in the 50 breaststroke posting a time of 30.62, a time that also makes her the fastest European women in the 15-16 year old age category.

14 year old Angela Cwil set a record for 14 year olds in the women’s 50 backstroke posting a time of 28.75.

Filip Zaborowski and Aleksandra Urbanczyk were the only two swimmers to put up winning times that factor in the world’s top ten. Zaborowski recorded a 7:41.13 in the men’s 800 freestyle, good enough for fourth and Urbanczyk posted a 59.04 in the 100 IM, which puts her 10th, a spot which she already occupied with a previous season’s best of 59.23.
