Craver Claims Two, 400 IM and 100 Free

Goucher’s Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) was one of only two swimmers from any of the three Landmark Conference teams which competed in von Borries Pool this afternoon that took first place in more than one individual event.

Craver was the first to touch in the 400-yard individual medley, which she completed in 4:57.69, and also in the 100-yard freestyle, where she posted a time of :57.59. The runners-up in thoese events were both from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy: Jacqueline White in the 400 IM (4:58.19) and Nina Demet in the 100 free (:57.70).

The other swimmer who turned in a pair of first-place performances in today’s meet was Mariel Schwinger from Drew. She was the top performer in the 1000 free (11:33.47) and 500 free (5:35.66).

Goucher’s Catherine Gepner (West Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Twp.), one of the three seniors on Goucher’s 2013-14 roster who were recognized prior to the meet, placed third in the 500 free with her time of 5:51.40.

The other seniors on this year’s team are Patrice D’Orazio (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph Hill Academy) and Tierney Doran (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach).

Merchant Marine came away from today’s meet with two victories. The Mariners (5-3, 3-0 Landmark) defeated Goucher, 66-29, and Drew, 59-36. The Rangers (3-6, 2-3 Landmark) pinned a 71-24 setback on the Gophers (2-8, 0-6 Landmark).
