Magnussen Is Ready To Race

As the date of the BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series approaches quickly Australian swimming star James Magnussen appears to be preparing to take on competitors from China, Japan, South Africa and Brazil by racing himself into to shape.

Magnussen will compete at the Victorian State Championships in Melbourne and then heads directly to Perth to race in the Western Australian State Championships.

It has been announced that 21 of the 30 member Australian team will be taking part in the Victorian State Championships which run from January 17th-19th in Melbourne. That list includes:

Ashley Delaney, Mack Horton, Belinda Hocking, Matson Lawson and Ellen Gandy, along with interstate team mates Alicia Coutts, James Magnussen, James Roberts, Leiston Pickett, Chris Wright, Bronte Barratt, Kylie Palmer, Ben Treffers, Madeline Groves, Jessica Ashwood, Daniel Tranter, Daniel Lester, Grant Irvine, Kenneth To, Keryn McMaster and David McKeon

Magnussen will be joined by Daniel Tranter and Jessica Ashwood at the meet in Perth which runs from January 20th-24th. In Perth the 100 freestyle world champion will be challenged by fellow 2013 World Championship team members Matthew Abood and Tommaso D’Orsogna.

The competition in Melbourne will be attended by international athletes from Japan, Canada, New Zealand, France, Hong Kong and Korea, the most notable being Park Tae Hwan, who has returned to Brisbane to train with Michael Bohl.

IPC World Championship team members Matt Haanappel, Matt Levy and Rowan Crothers will be competing at the Victorian State Championships while Paralympic gold medalist and BHP Billiton team member Kat Downie will be competing at the Western Australian Championships.
