According to the team’s website, the Piranha Swim Team in Palm Springs, California has been robbed of the equipment it uses to run its swim meets.

According to the report, head coach Jeff Conwell said that between Saturday and Tuesday, thieves broke into two locked storage closets and stole $5,000 worth of equipment, including the team’s P.A. system, stopwatches, cases of water and soda, two printers, and a portable power box known as a “spider box”.

In an interview with local ABC/CBS affiliate KSEQ, head coach Jeff Conwell says that through the generosity of nearby teams, they’ve secured enough equipment to host an upcoming meet this weekend, but that they’re still looking for a way to replace the equipment on a permanent basis.

The Piranhas Swim Team has a long history, having been around since 1965. Among the more prominent names to come out of the program include 1980’s star Ricky Gill, Olympian Lynette Lim, and Arizona State All-American Shannon Landgrebe.

Edit: the PST Twitter account reminded us of one more big alumni of the team: U.S. Olympian Tracy McFarlane, who for four years held the American Record in the 100 breast.

It would be nice to know what town/state/LSC the team is in. There are lots of Piranhas out there.
