Bowling Green beats Toledo by .03 for second-straight nailbiter win

For the second week in a row, the Bowling Green women saw a meet come down to the final relay, trailing Toledo by a single point with one race to go Friday night. But Bowling Green won a heart-stopper by just .03 to hand Toledo its first conference loss.

The Falcon team of Kayla Effinger, Anna Babinec, Emily Waller and Hannah Newman went 1:35.07 with Newman splitting 23.25 to run down Toledo’s A team. The Rockets finished in 1:35.10.

Bowling Green got big wins out of freshman Victoria Griffin, who went 1:51.93 to win the 200 free and 51.29 for the 100 free win.

But perhaps the biggest event for Bowling Green was the 1000 free, where Lara Klein went 10:24.96 to lead a 1-2-3 charge made up of all season-bests by the Falcon ladies.

Toledo won the 400 medley relay to start things off, and the butterflyer on that relay, Beth Rogers, went on to win the 100 fly (55.97) and 200 fly (2:04.54) for the Rockets.

The final score was Bowling Gree 151, Toledo 143.

I noticed in the box scores that Bowling Green does not have a diving team so they give up 1-2-3 for both the 1M & 3M. This makes the win all the more significant. Coach Petra has the BG ladies swimming well!

Good point DC Guy. Luckily, shouldn’t be a problem for them much longer:
