Tickets on Sale for 2014 U.S. Nationals and World Championship Trials

The 2014 USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, California will run from Wednesday, August 6th through Sunday, August 10th, and tickets are now on sale for the event through the webpage of the Irvine Novaquatics website. There will be about 3,000 seats available for spectators after coaches, athletes, and media seating is blocked off.

At that page, fans can also purchase tickets for the 2014 Junior National Championships, which will be held the week before on the same Wednesday-Sunday cycle.

Senior Nationals will be a very significant meet, as they will serve as the selection event for the following international-level meets:

  • 2014 Pan Pac Championships
  • 2014 World Short Course Championships
  • 2015 World Championships
  • 2015 World University Games

Ticket prices for the World Championship Trials run from $10 for a single prelims or finals session, to $15 for a single finals session, and an “all-session passes” book for $60 for the 10 sessions of the meet. Students and seniors can receive discounts. These prices are slightly lower than what was charged for the Indy World Championship Trials.

Can you explain why swimmers are selected this summer (2014) for next year’s 2015 World Champs and 2015 WUGs? Thanks.

As for the continuity question, they picked the 2013 WC team a month before the WC. What gives in 2014-2015?

It’s the case every 4 years in USA since at least 2006.

It made sense in 2006 because 2007 Worlds were held during southern hemisphere Melbourne summer, which didn’t give USA time in early 2007 for a national competition for selection.

It does not make any sense now (or in 2010/2011)..
