Caroline Arakelian Breaks NCAA Division II Record in 200 Back at BGMC Championships

The final, Sunday evening, session of the 2014 Bluegrass Mountain Championships have gotten off with a bang, as Queens University sophomore Caroline Arakelian started the session with a new National Record.

She swam a 1:56.40 in the 200 yard backstroke, which not only broke her conference record of 1:56.98 from prelims, but once ratified will break the NCAA Division II National Record. The old record of 1:56.44 was set in December by Delta State freshman Anastasia Klyaroskaya.

With two swimmers so young trading record blows this season, this record could go down a few more times this year, and over the coming years, and this should be one of the best head-to-head battles on the women’s side at the 2014 NCAA Division II Championships.

A full recap of Sunday’s session will come at the completion of the meet.

Full meet results available on Meet Mobile.
