The HardCore Swim of the Week, to sort of punctuate a week of ranting-and-raving, goes to the Carmel High School girls’ 400 yard freestyle relay, the third of three Carmel relays to break National High School Records over the weekend.
We’ve talked a lot about the meet that Carmel had, and how impressive they were, but again for us the most impressive was a 3:21.20 in the 400 yard free relay at the end of the meet from Veronica Burchill, Katie Lemen, Kendall Smith, and Claire Adams. What made this just slightly more hardcore than the others in our minds is that they did it without their state champion and state record holding sprinter Amy Bilquist, who swam on the other two record-setting relays.
If Bilquist hasd been on that relay, they could have taken it down into the 3:19’s or 3:18’s, which is a record that might have stood for a generation.

The time given above was the crown points time! Those girls also broke the national record too. The Carmel girls went a 3:21.20! Great job to both teams that broke the previous record.
