Boise State Wins Mountain West Conference By 100 Pts. Over San Diego

1650 Freestyle

Genevieve Miller of the Air Force won the event in nearly ten seconds tonight. Her winning time was 16:19.17. She bested her teammate, Sara Menke, who was second in 16:28.83.

200 Backstroke

San Diego State grabbed the win with Natilee Ruiz at 1:55.43. Wyoming was second with Jordan Denny at 1:56.22.

The field dropped off after those two, with Boise State’s Nicolette Cannon at 1:58.28.

100 Freestyle 

San Diego’s freshman sprint star Anika Apostalon was at it again, clocking in a 47.73 to win the event tonight. That ranks her eight thus far this season.

Her SDSU teammate Whitney Weisz was fifth, 49.53, and the last swimmer under :50 in the A final.

Boise State went 3-4 with Brittany Aoyama and Samantha Wicksat 49.33 and 49.50. Morgan Hartigan of Wyoming was under :49, at 48.77.

200 Breaststroke

Yawen Li of Nevada showed her breaststroke power here, winning in 2:10.15. Mikaela Macklin of San Diego was second at 2:11.23. The two had quite the breaststroke splits in their 400 IM last night, 1:08-1:09’s.

Li’s teammate from Nevada was third at 2:11.44. Boise State was got in for fourth at 2:13.98 by Heather Harper.

200 Butterfly

Rachel Heaney, a senior from Boise State, controlled the event and took home the win in 1:58.09. Outside Heaney, the field was very tight, with less than 1.5 separating the next six finishers.

Heaney’s teammate Brooke Balogh was fourth, 1:59.67.

Claudia Carlson of Wyoming was second at 1:59.38. Her teammate Leah Roesler was fifth, 1:59.78. Nevada had the third and seventh finishers with Sita Kusserow and Rachel O’Connor at 1:59.51 and 2:00.70.

San Jose State’s Ashlyn Acosta was sixth, 2:00.28.

400 Freestyle Relay

San Diego completed the relay sweep, with a win in a time of 3:16.60. Apostalon lead off in a 48.54, and Chelsea Bailey, 48.98, Natilee Ruiz, 49.70, and Whitney Weisz, 49.38, took care of the rest.

UNLV was second at 3:17.52, and Boise State was third at 3:17.62.
