Loughborough Takes Team Title At 2014 Long Course BUCS

Loughborough University has dominated the British Universities and Colleges Sports Swimming Championships for a number of years and the 2014 season was no different. Loughborough once again came away with the team title at the 2014 British Universities and Colleges Sports Long Course Swimming Championships collecting a total of 313 points. The University of Bath finished second with 253 points followed by Swansea University that finished third with 212 points.

Kathryn Willis and Emma Wilkins were both big contributors to Loughborough’s win collecting individual victories as well as a relay title on the final night of competition. Willis won the women’s 100 backstroke in a time of 1:03.85, just 44 one-hundredths of a second off her lifetime best. Wilkins took the women’s 50 butterfly in a time of 27.33. Both women were also part of Loughborough’s gold medal winning women’s 400 medley relay team.

Ben Proud added to his victory total on the final night of the competition, winning the 100 freestyle and the 50 butterfly. Proud, who won the 50 freestyle earlier in the competition, posted a 49.99 to take the men’s 100 freestyle and 24.12 to win the men’s 50 butterfly.

Alys Thomas won the women’s 200 butterfly in a time of 2:13.22 while Cameron Brodie took the men’s event in a time of 1:59.59. Rebecca Turner won the women’s 100 freestyle in a time of 55.59. Kathryn Johnstone won the women’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:09.72 while Chris Steeples took the men’s event in a time of 1:02.10. Emily Jones won the women’s 200 IM in a time of 2:17.61 while Ieuan Lloyd took the men’s event in a time of 2:02.48. Ryan Bennett won the men’s 100 backstroke in a time of 55.94.
