Jordan Ko, Isla Rapcan Win Six Individual Titles at Illinois 11-14 Age Group Championships

Both Jordan Ko and Isla Rapcan took home double-digit gold medals following the Illinois 11-14 Age Group Championships in mid-March.

Ko won 11 gold medals and Rapcan 10, with each winning six individual titles in their age groups.

Ko, who swims for New Trier Aquatics and was competing in the boys’ 13-14 age group, set personal best times in each of his wins in the 100 freestyle (47.30), 50 breaststroke (26.69), 100 breast (57.70), 200 breast (2:07.95), 50 butterfly (23.34) and 200 IM (1:53.78).

He also swam the leadoff leg of a 200 free relay, going out in a personal best time of 21.77 for a team that set a state record with a time of 1:28.04. Other team members were Lubo Liu-Tchorbadjiyski, Sam Kast and Tyler Zheng.

Ko was a part of four other winning relay teams. His time in the 100 breast is the 13th-fastest in the among 14-year-old boys  this year.

Rapcan, who swam for RISE Aquatic Club, won six individual events in the girls 11-12 age group and was a part of four winning relay teams. She won the 50 breast (31.31), 100 breast (in 1:07.16, which came after swimming a personal best 1:07.15 in preliminaries), 200 breast (2:25.17), 100 fly (personal best 1:01.00), 100 IM (personal best 1:01.61) and 200 IM (personal best 2:12.85).

In the 11-12 girls’ age group, Rapcan owns the seventh-fastest time in the 200 breast and the ninth-fastest time in the 100 breast.

From the team standpoint, Ko helped New Trier Aquatics win the boys’ event, while FMC Aquatic Club won the girls’ and combined titles.

Other individual standouts were:

  • Avery Musick of NASA Wildcat Aquatics won three events in the girls’ 13-14 age group, winning the 50 back (personal best 26.76), 100 back (personal best 56.08) and 200 back (2:00.66).
  • Kam Gardiner of the Peoria Area Water Wizards won three events in the 13-14 age girls’ group, taking the 200 fly (2:02.15), 200 IM (2:05.56) and 400 IM (4:27.72) in personal best times. Among 13-year-old girls this season, Gardiner has the second-fastest time in the 200 fly, the 12th-fastest in the 200 IM and the 15th-fastest in the 400 IM.
  • Also in the girls’ 13-14 age group, Addy Koenig-Song of NASA Wildcat Aquatics won the 50 free (personal best 23.66), 200 free (1:50.91) and 50 fly (25.36).
  • In the boys’ 13-14 age group, Blake Torpey of Fox Valley Swim Team won five events, all in personal best times. He won the 100 back (52.75), 200 back (1:53.70), 100 fly (51.40), 200 fly (1:54.26) and 400 IM (4:04.68.
  • Lubo Liu-Tchorbadjiyski of New Trier Aquatics won the 50 free (21.73), 50 back (23.96) and was second in the 100 back (52.79), all in personal best times. Liu-Tchorbadjiyski currently owns the third-fastest times in both the 50 free and 100 back for the boys’ 13-year-old age group.
  • Jax Capen of Academy Bullets Swim Club won the 500 free (4:43.46) and 1000 free ( 9:47.68), both in personal best times. He has the seventh-fastest time in the 1000 free and the 12th-fastest this season among 13-year-old boys.
  • Emma Rose of New Trier Aquatics swam personal best times to win the 50 free (25.07), 100 free (54.44) and 200 free (1:58.15) in the girls’ 11-12 age group. She was also second in the 500 free (personal best 5:21.98) and 100 IM (1:02.92).
  • In the 11-12 girls’ age group, Harper Rauch won the 500 free (5:04.71) and 1000 free (10:18.60) in personal best times, while also taking second in the 200 free (1:59.07) with a personal best time. She has the second-fastest times in the 12-year-old age group in the 500 free and 1000 free.
  • Ali Beran of Mavericks Swim Club won the 50 free (26.13), 100 back (1:00.85) and 200 back (2:13.26) all in personal best times in the 11-12 girls’ age group.
  • In the boys 11-12 age group, Elias Iqbal of NASA Wildcat Aquatics won six events. He swam personal best times to win the 50 free (24.26), 100 free (52.51), 200 free (1:55.88), 100 fly (56.67) and the 200 fly (2:07.28). He also won the 100 IM (1:00.22) and has the current eighth-fastest time in the 200 fly in the 12-year-old boys’ age group.
  • Jackson Chan of RISE Aquatic Club won three events in the 11-12 boys’ age group, all in personal best times. He won the 100 back (58.73), 200 back (2:06.48) and 50 fly (25.67).
  • Ollie Brereton of Palatine Park District won the 500 free (5:10.22) and 1000 free (10:35.29) in personal best times. He also swam personal best times to finish second in the 200 fly (2:12.05), 100 IM (1:00.47) and 200 IM (2:09.69). He has the 17th-fastest time this season in the 1000 free.
