Luke Bedsole and Sadie Buckley Shine on Final Day of NCSA Championships

2025 NCSA Spring Swimming Championships

The final day of the NCSA Swimming Championships featured four individual events, and two relays. These events were highlighted by a double event win from Luke Bedsole and Sadie Buckley’s #2 200 IM time in the country this season.

Boy’s Recap

Luke Bedsole, a 17-year-old from the Huntsville Swim Association, had two other gold medals going into the final day. He started the final session with a win in the 50 backstroke. His final time of 21.58 was a little under three tenths faster than Joshua Bey’s 2nd place swim of 21.83.

His 2nd event win came as the very last individual event of the meet in the men’s 50 freestyle where he went 19.79. This is the 7th fastest time in the country for non-college 17-18 year olds this season. The only other swimmer who went under 20 seconds was Machine Aquatics’ Jayson Ross who went 19.93 for 2nd, though Joshua Howat from National’s Capital went 20.00

16-year-old Aidan Kaplan from Nasa Wildcat Aquatics was also in the men’s 50 freestyle. He ended up finishing 5th overall, swimming 20.05 to move up to 10th overall in the 15-16 rankings this season.

The other two men’s events went to different swimmers. Long Island Aquatic Club’s Sean Green won the 1650 in 14:57.75. This was about eight seconds off his seed time of 14:49.33, but was 12 seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher, teammate William Siegel. Green also won the 500 freestyle, and he finished 2nd in the 200 freestyle.

Joshua Bey of the Highland Hurricanes Swim Club continued his near perfect meet with an event win in the 200 IM, touching in 1:45.77, which was slightly off his best time of 1:43.96 from the end of February. Over the course of his eight events, Bey won six gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze.

Girl’s Recap

Sadie Buckley also moved up the top 10 season list thanks to her event win in the women’s 200 IM. The 15-year-old Nation’s Capital swimmer touched in 1:56.45 to win by around a second-and-a-half. She also moved into 2nd overall on the 15-16 current season rankings, and she currently sits a little over a second behind fellow 15-year-old Audrey Derivaux of the Jersey Wahoos.

The other three women’s individual events all went to different athletes. Alyssa Sagle effectively completed her sweep of the backstroke events by winning the 50 backstroke, the first event of the day. She finished in 24.45, which was off her personal best of 24.24 from early March. Sagle also won the 100 back (52.04), and the 200 back (1:51.73) earlier in the meet.

Lily Gormsen, from the Long Island Aquatics Club, was the runner-up in the 500 freestyle at the meet, and she won the 1000 freestyle in 9:51.36, which was a new season best time for her. Her lifetime best stands at 9:50.22 from October 2022. She finished a little under two seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher Avery Luedke from the Academy Bullets Swim Club who finished in 9:53.07.

The final women’s event, the 50 freestyle, went to Sarah Paisley Owen from the Metro Atlanta Aquatic Club. She finished in 22.58, about three tenths off her lifetime best time of 22.26 from the East Winter Junior Nationals in December. Owen also finished 2nd in the 100 freestyle in 49.23.
