Cassidy Bayer finished 2013, her 13th year on the planet, in historic fashion. At the 2013 Tom Dolan Invitational in December, Bayer handily broke Mary T. Meagher’s 13-14 National Age Group (NAG) record in the 200 yard fly with a time of 1:56.01. Meagher’s record of 1:56.58 had stood for 34 years.
Bayer swims for Nation’s Capital Swim Club in Alexandria, Virginia. She also holds NAG records in the 11-12 100 meter fly (1:01.75) and 200 meter fly (2:15.02).
She was the youngest competitor at the 2013 US World Championship Trials. She won the C-final in the 200 meter fly with a time of 2:11.40. That time would have earned her a spot in the A-final if she had swum it in prelims. Bayer also won the C-final in the 100 meter fly in 59.99, just off of the 13-14 NAG record.
Bayer is currently in the 8th grade. She is also a member of the 2013-14 United States’ National Junior Team.
