Michael Andrew Breaks 13-14 National Age Group Record in 200 Yard Freestyle

Though it only placed him 12th, which is not as high as he’s been in other races this week at the 2014 NCSA Junior National Championships, Michael Andrew’s 1:38.31 in the 200 yard freestyle breaks the 13-14 National Age Group Record in that event. That is only one of five National Age Group Records in yards for 13-14’s that he didn’t hold coming into the meet, as he now holds 10 of the 14 records.

The old mark was set at 1:38.42 in 2012 by Maxime Rooney of the Pleasanton Seahawks.

Andrew split 22.74-24.45-25.61-25.51 (or 47.19/51.12) en route to his record-breaking performance. This swim adds to his own 200 fly record that he broke on Wednesday with a 1:45.39.

Winn Aung broke the 50,100 & 200 free L.C. NAGs last year for 10&u.

He also broke Michael’s 50 & 100 free S.C.

Yes. And I think he will destroy the 11/12 NAG records on these distances as well.

Brilliant! See this is exactly what I was hoping for. Because now, he can no longer be called “only a sprinter.” I mean, yeah, with the 2 fly/2bk/2im/4im records he proved he isn’t just a sprinter. But this really takes the cake. How many kids can break NAG records in the 50,100, and 200 frees? Well, he has proven that he can do ’em all.

I don’t care to see him worry about the 500 or higher free’s. Right now I just want to see just one or two more “amazing” things before he ages up. Skip the 200 breast tomorrow and go for a 46 100 fly. How insane would that be if he could pull that off?

So right now he’s missing the 200 breast, 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyles. Absolutely insane. I hope he swims the 200 breast this week, just to see what he can do. At this point, I don’t think he’ll get the record in that, but I do think he could break 2 minutes, which is still huge (and I’m sure it’s a goal for Michael). He has the 200 breast and 100 fly back to back tomorrow, though, so I kind of hope he races his heart out in the morning and then scratches one of those events for the evening.

He is setting the bars high for the next person to break!

Call me crazy but…….I don’t think there is ever gonna be a “next person” when it comes to the things MA has done as a 14 year old.

Then again I thought we would never see another Phelps. Perhaps MA will be the first MA?

Just another day at the office for Mr. Andrew. I guess he will get one more NAG record as he likes to do this in threes. He now has 5 NAG records in one week’s time in two different length pools. It’s got to be the record for most NAG records during a 7-day stretch.
