Since Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden won the 100 butterfly at the World Championships in Barcelona last summer she has been on a tear, which continued today at the Swim Cup in Eindhoven.
On the first evening of the competition Sjostrom took the 50 freestyle title away from Olympic Champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo posting a 24.15 the second fastest time in the world next to Australian Cate Campbell’s 24.13. Her winning time was a lifetime best by three tenths of a second. Kromowidjojo, who took gold in the event in Barcelona, finished in a time of 24.35 which places her third in the world rankings.
Danish star Pernille Blume and Inge Dekker of the Netherlands tied for the bronze both posting a time of 24.73. They also matched the time of Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belrus putting all three women in a deadlock for the seventh position in the world rankings.

In the women’s 200 IM it was no surprise to see Dutch swimmer Femke Heemskerk came away with the victory, but it was a surprise that she posted a time of 2:10.21. Heemskerk broke her own Dutch national record by almost three seconds, better the mark of 2:12.93 which she posted in February. She takes over the second position in the world rankings with only Alicia Coutts (2:08.89) having swum faster.

I’ll be really mad if Sjostrom doesn’t swim the 100free. It really looks like she can go 52.5 or better.
1:06.42 RMP 100 breast. OK time but I hope she is saving something for the 200 on Sunday.
27.76 for Mie Nielsen? 😯
Can we expect a 58 from her in the 100 back this year?
She is the greatest threat to Missy Franklin in the next years.
I continue to think that Missy is unbeatable if she improves her starts and underwaters. She has everything in store to swim one day under 58. Not this year because she focused a lot on freestyle in her first college season. It’s possible before Rio.
But the young Danish swimmer is very very very impressive.
I’m don’t quite get the hype over Niesen. I haven’t watched any of her races, but 27.76 isn’t _that_ fast.
1.55.05 for Sarah Sjöström in the 200 free.
27.76, top time in the world so far, for Mie Nielsen in the 50 back semis 🙂
Is that a world junior record in fact? Mie isn’t 18 until September this year.
.. and I answered my own question, no, because she is 18 on 31st December this year. Still, fantastic performance by Mie.
And for girls, it’s 15 to 17 yo, 18 does not count.
for boys, it’s 16 to 18.
Yes, I got confused which date the age was measured from. 🙂
I’m hoping the live stream today will stay working better than the website 🙂

Sjostrom is coming for scalps this season! I wonder if she’ll swim the 400 free at this meet.
