It’s been a great ride so far at the 2014 USMS spring nationals at the George Haines International Swim Center in Santa Clara. Over 2,200 masters swimmers have convened in the waters to celebrate the joy of swimming FAST. Yes FAST.
Some notable swims include: an 18.78 50 by Nathan Adrian; a 19.33 by Anthony Ervin (a new national record in the 30 – 34 age group); a 20.82 by Josh Davis (national record in the 40 – 44 age group); Katie Glenn and Cynthia Lewis were both under the national record in the 100 breaststroke posting 1:02.34 and 102.82 respectively; Steve West set a new 40-44 100 breast record in 55.61; and Laura Val went 26.56 in the 50 free setting the national record in the 60 – 64 age group.
Here’s some of what sports photographer Mike Lewis saw today.
The Olympic Club does not pay “anyone” to compete for the club. Top athletes from around the world “join”the club to compete in over 15 sports that the Olympic Club offers. Some athletes join under an athletic membership. The Olympic Club is one of the oldest and prestigious athletic clubs in the world. The attraction to join is obvious…can’t beat em…join em…
Max, the Olympic club does not pay athletes to represent them. They do, however, offer subsidized membership rates to athletic members who come from athletically impressive backgrounds – this applies to former D1 swimmers and similar members. I know that they aren’t paying Nathan and Anthony, but I would guess that they are giving them free membership or something along those lines.
why are pros taking part in masters swimming had to laugh hard sry.
Because they can?
Question: So how much is The Olympic Club paying Adrian and Erivn, and others, to swim under their name? They don’t train with them, though The Olympic Club does lure post-grad D1 swimmers into their swimming program, where they get paid for representi the club.
