Yesterday, Ye Shiwen and Fu Yuanhui shined, each winning and individual event with the fastest time in the world this year. The Chinese Spring National Championships have been fast this year, and that isn’t expected to change throughout the rest of the week.
Li Zhuhao won the first event of the day, swimming a 52.79 to win the men’s 100 butterfly. Zhang Qibing finished second at 53.26.
In the women’s 200 freestyle, Shen Duo got her hand on the wall in 1:57.06, earning the win with the ninth fastest time in the world this year. Tang Yi added a second place finish, touching out Guo Junjun by .11 seconds with a time of 1:57.84, to Junjun’s 1:57.94.
Li Xiang posted a time of 1:00.83 to win the men’s 100 breaststroke. Mao Feilian had the second fastest time with his 1:01.53.
The women’s 200 butterfly was won by Jiao Liulang with a 2:07.28. That time moves her ahead of several Japanese swimmers, but is still two seconds away from Japan’s world leader, Natsumi Hoshi. Liulang’s time will stand as the sixth fastest time in the world this year. Zhou Yilin finished second at 2:09.81.
The men’s 400 IM saw the third fastest time in the world this year from the winner, Yang Zhixian. He is now within four seconds of Kosuke Hagino from Japan.
The final individual event of the day was the women’s 100 backstroke. After winning the 50 backstroke yesterday, Fu Yuanhui wins the 100 backstroke today with a time of 59.59. Although her time is not the fastest in the world, it will stand as the second fastest time in the world this year, only .67 behind the world leader, Emily Seebohm.
