Venezuelan National Team Swimmer Named “Mr. Venezuela 2014”

Venezuelan National Team swimmer Jesus Antonio Casanova has been named the winner of the Mr. Venezuela beauty pageant, and in November will travel to England to compete for Mr. World.

Casanova, a sprint freestyler and butterflier, is a veteran of the Venezuelan international swimming squads. He is a multiple-time finalist at the South American Games, including a 23.33 for 8th place in the 50 free earlier in 2014. His biggest international success come as the 3rd-leg of the 2008 South American Championships winning 800 free relay for Venezuela. They won that race by almost 12 seconds and broke the Championship Record. That record has since been broken.

Casanova also has a Pan Ams bronze medalist as a prelims-only swimmer on Venezuela’s 2007 Pan Am Games 400 free relay.

The 25-year old says that he only became interested in the pageant in the last three months, but local fans and media almost immediately annointed him the favorite.

One Mr. Venezuela, 1997 winner Sandro Finoglio Speranza, has been named Mister World.

Swimming is not only an amazing sport but we have some of the most gorgeous and talented athletes. A few of them have become celebrities on the silver screen. I’m sure this is not the last we will see of Mr Venezuela.
