The Xavier Musketeers have unveiled their schedule for the 2014-2015 season, which will feature a pretty typical slate of local, Midwestern opponents.
The schedule is a mid-major model to be proud of; the team has plenty of road meets, and will race in 5 different states within their regular-season, to test their mettle, but all without spending big bucks on cross-country road trips. In fact, the team swims only two home meets against intercollegiate competition across a 13-meet regular season schedule.
Where the Big East will hold its 2014-2015 championship remains to be seen. The inaugural championship of the new Big East (which is technically not a continuation of the old Big East) was hosted at a neutral-site GCIT pool in New Jersey. The remaining Big East teams are Villanova, Xavier, Seton Hall, Georgetown, Providence, and Butler (women only), without an obvious on-campus host among them for the conference championship meet.

CINCINNATI – The Xavier University men’s and women’s 2014-15 swimming schedule features some familiar names, but adds a handful of meets against teams that haven’t been on the schedule in recent years.
The Musketeers kick off the campaign with a trip to Indianapolis for the Butler Fall Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28. XU will then travel to meets against annual-competitors Louisville (Oct. 11), Cincinnati (Oct. 12) and Miami (Ohio) (Oct. 18) before hosting Cumberlands on Oct. 25 in the first true home event of the year.
Xavier will host its yearly Alumni Meet on Oct. 4 in the first event of the season at the O’Connor Sports Center and will then welcome Cumberlands College in a dual meet on Oct. 25.
A trip to Huntington, W.V., for a meet with Marshall and Vanderbilt is on tap for the women’s team on Saturday, Nov. 1. Both squads will then take a brief break from competition to gear up for the Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State from Nov. 21-23 and the AT&T Winter Nationals. Select individuals have qualified for the Winter Nationals, which will be held in Greensboro, N.C., from Dec. 4-6 and features some of the top swimmers in the nation.
Following Christmas vacation and the team’s annual training excursion to Florida, Xavier kicks off the spring season with a tri-meet in Indianapolis against IUPUI and Ball State on Jan. 9.
XU plays host to Wright State in its final home meet of the season on Jan. 23.
The Butler Invitational (Jan. 25), a tri-meet at Akron with Mount Union (Jan. 30) and a tri-meet at Cleveland State and includes Oakland (Jan. 31) closes the regular season for the Musketeers.
Xavier then makes its way to the BIG EAST Championships, where the men’s squad seeks to defend its 2014 conference crown and the women’s team will try to improve on its third-place effort.
