WATER POLO: USA Men Fall to Australia, 4 to 8 on Day 2 of FINA World League Super Final

The USA Men’s Senior National Team concluded day two of the FINA World League Super Final with a loss to Australia, 4-8. John Mann (Newport Beach, CA/California/NYAC) scored two goals and McQuin Baron (North Tustin, CA/Mater Dei HS/United) posted 9 saves in the loss. Team USA is back in action on Wednesday, playing against Hungary at 3:30 am PT and can be accessed by clicking here.

Alex Obert (Stockton, CA/Pacific/Sac Polo) and Michael Rosenthal (Miami, FL/USC/NYAC)each scored a goal in the second quarter to tie up the game, but Australia went on to build a three point lead by the end of the third quarter. Australia scored twice during the last quarter to increase their advantage. Mann scored his second goal, within the last minute of play to end the game at 4-8.

On power plays, Team USA went 0/10 while Australia was 2/7.

“Our man-up (attack) was terrible. This cost us the result. I cannot be satisfied with our performance,” said USA Head Coach Dejan Udovicic.

“You are always disappointed when you lose. You don’t play sports to lose. We are working on a lot of things in the team and building until the end of the summer. Being young is not an excuse and we have to come out and win games and have to execute. We have a ton of skill and a lot of kids and the young men are exceptional players and I actually believe in our future. It’s always good to play and battle against teams you know and set a benchmark with, and with Coach Dejan (Udovicic) we’re growing so much and learning so much. We came here to win as many games as we can and finish in the top two,” said John Mann.
