Women’s 100 Freestyle – FINALS – as reported by SwimSwam.com
Simone Manuel led the first 50 at 26.47, followed by Margo Geer and Simone Manuel. It came all the way down to the end between Missy Franklin and Simone Manuel, but it was Simone that got her hand on the wall first for the win with a time of 54.44. Missy Franklin added her second place time of 54.51, followed by a 55.08 from Allison Schmitt. Impressively, every swimmer in the final heat of the women’s 100 free was able to drop time from their morning swim except one swimmer, who was only .11 off. Karlee Bispo won the B-final of the women’s 100 freestyle with a time of 55.77.

After her huge SCY season, I see Simone able to swim 53.20/53.30 in August.
Missy isn’t a 100 free specialist but just on her giant talent she will swim again 53.30/53.50 at Pan Pacs.
Bobo, I agree Missy is better suited to the 200 free/200 back than 100’s, but it seems like she could change the way she does a few things to improve her100’s. I wish I could hire Natalie Coughlin to be her personal starts/turns/underwaters coach because I think she perfected those better than almost anybody, and they’re both living/training in the same area!
Oh yeah! While I’m making my wish list, I want Pelton to take the next 2 years off from Cal and train with Troy or Bachelor or whoever helped to turn Beisel’s awful breaststroke into a real weapon! Did you see how well she swam breast against former NCAA 200 breast champ Sugar yesterday? And then she did equally well in the 400 free immediately following! I hope she wins the Rio 400 IM, but Hosszu and Shiwen will be tough to beat.

About Missy, I always write the same thing.
When she will really have big goals in the 100 free, she will have to give up the backstroke events and the 200 free to focus exclusively on sprint all year. Perhaps after 2020 and her 6th olympic gold medal and her 9 world gold medals on backstroke.
Los Angeles 2024. Missy will not be too old for sprint. She will be 29. 100 free olympic gold medalist at home for her last meet before retiring! It sounds good. No? 🙂

Manuel edged Franklin on the start/breakout then maintained that slight lead the whole way. She’s on track for a PB soon. Btw isn’t it pronounced Mawn-WELL, not MANual?
