As is not uncommon with the final day of a meet ending on Sunday, there’s been quite a few more scratches for the last day of the 2014 Santa Clara Grand Prix.

The biggest among those is Tom Luchsinger dropping the men’s 200 fly – an event in which he’s the defending U.S. National Champion.Also scratching that 200 fly is Jack Conger, who would have been the 11th seed, as he’ll focus on the 100 back.
This means that Luchsinger’s meet is over, though most of his NBAC teammates are sticking around for the final day.
That includes Michael Phelps, who will race as the top seed in the men’s 200 IM. The officially estimated meet timeline has him going off at just before 11 AM, but as always, tune in early if you’re determined not to miss the winningest Olympian of all time swim.
Another NBAC swimmer not scratching anything pre-session is Chase Kalisz. Kalisz has wavered on his personal excitement and disappointment about his time thus far, but those of us on the outside are observing great success, and that will be tested in a big way on Sunday coming down from altitude. Kalisz has held his entries in the 200 fly, the 100 back, and the 200 IM. In the morning, that means three swims in under two hours. In the evening, that could mean three swims in about 90 minutes if he plays his cards right.
The other biggest new scratch coming through off of the prelims psych sheets is that Micah Lawrence has scratched the women’s 100 breaststroke after winning the 200 in a very good 2:26.5. Lawrence was not a part of the SwimMAC crew that just returned from the Mare Nostrum series in Europe, but still made just a quick trip here to Santa Clara for the one event. With her out and Alia Atkinson having already dropped the whole meet, Canadian Tera van Beilen takes over the top seed, followed by Laura Sogar and Fiona Doyle.
Other scratches we haven’t mentioned yet, though they’ve been out the whole meet, include Megan Kingsley, the 6 seed in the 200 fly, and Damir Dugonjic, the 2 seed in the 100 breast.
This was Luchsinger’s first Bowman high altitude camp with a schedule of triple, triple, double since May 27 until Santa Clara with only two days off. They flew in on Wednesday. Dude is probably seriously broken down. Look at Agnel’s 3:59 400 free
I bet they don’t do that schedule anymore. about half were pretty bad last weekend.
A reason for all these sick cases?

So she could be sticking just to her usual 100/200 back/free schedule @ Nationals after all…or I could be completely wrong there 😀
any reason for Tom’s scratch? sick? he hasn’t been very good this weekend, so makes sense if so.
