Kirk Ermels Hired As New Assistant By Wyoming

The Wyoming Cowboys have hired a new assistant, with Kirk Ermels joining the staff. He’ll fill the spot recently vacated by outgoing assistant/recruiting coordinator Manny Noguchi.

Ermels comes to the team from his last stop at Boise State, where in one year, he was an assistant on the Broncos’ 2013-2014 Mountain West Conference Championship on the women’s side, and a team that sent 6 qualifiers to the NCAA Championships.

That means that Ermels will be familiar with Wyoming; though Boise State was a women’s only program (as compared to Wyoming, a co-ed program), they are in the same conference.

Before that, Ermels was an assistant at UNC-Asheville as that program began, and before that spent 5 season as the head coach of the Lions Swim Team – one of the top club programs in the state of Montana. He was named a three time Coach of the Year in Montana, and led Helena High School to the program’s first ever state title in 2011.

“The staff at the University of Wyoming seems like a great fit and I’m so excited to join the program,” Ermels said. “There is a great foundation in place and a tremendous opportunity to continue to build a program that will be successful at the conference, national and international levels.”

Wyoming head coach Tom Johnson was excited about the newest addition to his staff. ““Kirk was a guy I have had on my list and we are fortunate to have him on our staff with his great coaching background and recruiting footprint in the region,” Johnson said. “He just brings a great passion to coaching and coaches at a very high level.

“It is a great situation to have someone join our staff from the Mountain West. He knows our strengths and weakness and that will make for a great transition.”
