Canadian National Championships – Day Four Prelims

The final day of the 2014 Canadian National Championships in Saskatoon kicked off today with the prelims of the 200 butterfly. UBC Dolphins Noemie Thomas who is looking to sweep the butterfly events will be going into this evening’s final with the top ranked time of 2:14.71. Jacomie Strydom of the Olympians Swim Club, who finished second to Thomas in the 100 butterfly, recorded the second fastest time of the morning finishing in a 2:16.89 followed by Vanessa Treasure of the Toronto Swim Club who posted a 2:18.38.

2012 Olympian David Sharpe of the Halifax Trojans Aquatic Club put up the fastest time in the men’s 200 butterfly prelims posting a 2:03.06. Jobin Thomas of the University of Calgary qualified second in a time of 2:03.31 followed by Connor Wilkins of Oakville who recorded a lifetime best time of 2:03.82.

Three athletes from Quebec qualified with the three top times in women’s 50 freestyle. Caroline Lapierre-Lemire of the Pointe-Claire Swim Club was the top qualifier recording a time of 25.78 followed by Hannah Riordan of PPO who posted a 25.89 and Ariane Mainville of CAMO who finished in a time of 26.08.

In the men’s event Chris Manning of WRMS and teammate Cameron Kidd were the top two qualifiers. Manning touched in a time of 22.78 while Kidd hit the wall in a time of 23.15. Luke Peddie of the UBC Dolphins was the next fastest qualifier recording a 23.53.

UBC Dolphins Erin Stamp led the way in the women’s 200 IM qualifying in a time of 2:19.04. She was followed by Eryn Weldon of the Keyano Swim Club who qualified in a time of 2:19.92 and breaststroke specialist Ashley McGregor of the Pointe-Claire Swim Club who finished in a time of 2:19.99.

In the final individual event in the prelims Jonathan Brown of the UBC Dolphins was the fastest qualifier posting a 2:05.96. Matthew Meyers of the Toronto Swim Club qualified second in a time of 2:06.08 followed by teammate David Riley who recorded a 2:06.13.
