INTERVIEW: Hear Why “The Voices” of Juniors Enjoy This Meet So Much

Michael Poropat (left) and Sam Kendricks (right) are the voices behind the microphones at USA Swimming’s national -and international – meets. As we wrap up a week of great swimming at 2014 Speedo Junior National Championships, they took the time to sit down with SwimSwam’s Anne Lepesant.

Poropat and Kendricks explain what goes on behind the scenes in the commentating booth. They also share why they enjoy Juniors every year, and what they noticed in particular this year.

Your announcing couldn’t be better. The professionalism, enthusiasm and how well you know all the swimmers not to mention how politely you work the audience. It is an added pleasure to the experience of the meet. Thank you!

Sam and Michael are staying on in Irvine to announce US National Championships, so we’ll have another week with them.

Jean-Michel, it looks like you are a little too much fan of Anthony Ervin!
You wrote Ervine instead of Irvine!

Both announcers are very good.
They are passionate guys and it’s contagious.
They know what they talk about and it’s important.
And I like when Mr Kendricks tries to wake up the audience during a race! 🙂

Thank you, Mr Poropat and Mr Kendricks, you were terrific!

Especially, THANK YOU SwimSwam for the amazing coverage you provided for fans like me. It wasn’t long ago that I was watching the blips on the screen at the Omega website during World Championships, ugh! Now I can easily keep up with all aspects of my sport and interact with experts and fellow fans! Bravo!
