AAC Champ Trahan Hits 100 Back Best in SMU Pre-Conference Time Trials

Following their Friday dual meet with Texas, the SMU men and women held Saturday time trials as a final tuneup ahead of the AAC Championships. The Mustangs’ men and women will be in Houston for the conference meet from February 19-22. Several best times were set in the trials.

On the women’s side, AAC Champion Erin Trahan swam to a lifetime best in the 100 back. Her fastest time, per the USA Swimming database, was a 1:00.40 prior to the meet from 2018. This marks her first ever sub-1:00 swim, as she touched in 57.96. Trahan also cruised to a 200 IM win in 2:06.79.

Gabi Grobler smashed a pair of best times. Her 23.52 in the 50 free was a best by a second. She also raced to a 2:14.34 to drop 7 seconds in the 200 breast. Her 200 breast time ranks 5th in the AAC this season. Alex Stevens took the women’s 200 fly in 2:06.24 to drop 2.5 seconds. In the men’s version of that race, Tyler Barfield dropped 2 seconds with a 1:53.33.

SMU’s Colin Feehery dropped a second from his best in the 400 IM. Feehery put up a 3:50.73, marking his first time under 3:51. Feehery also blew away his best in the 200 back by 8 seconds. His 1:48.87 there was his first swim under 1:50. He was 2nd behind Stephen Cheng (1:47.43), who was about a second shy of his best. Feehery set 4 lifetime bests this weekend, having posted bests in both breaststrokes against Texas.

After swimming a lifetime best against Texas on Friday, teammate Cole Fleming made another drop in the 100 fly, clocking a 49.02. Then he went on to set another personal best, posting a 51.70 in the 100 back for his first sub-52 swim. Arthur Yuen dropped a few tenths from his best in the 200 breast (2:03.11). Anderson “AJ” Mainord took a second and a half off his 200 IM best in 1:51.83. He also won the 100 breast, tenths off his best in 55.27. Joseph Carson also picked up a best, dropping 10 seconds in the 1650 free (15:49.26).

Karsten Fields was within hundredths of her best in the 100 fly at 57.43. Teammate Olivia Anderson was just a few tenths short of her best in the 200 free (1:52.70). Wyatt Cronk missed his best in the 200 free by just 2 tenths in 1:39.21. Daniel Forndal was 2 tenths shy of his lifetime best in the 50 free, clocking a 20.47.
