Yale concluded its 2nd 2-day meet against Ivy League opponents in less than a week on Wednesday, January 10th. After rolling to victories against Penn and Dartmouth over the weekend, The Bulldogs took Monday off from competition then jumped right back into again on Tuesday, hosting Cornell for the final Yale home meet of the season. The Yale women’s team only dropped 1 event to the Big Red, while the men dropped 4, bringing Yale‘s combined win total to 33 out of 38 events.

The first day of competition was light, featuring only the women’s 3 meter diving, men’s 1 meter diving, 400 medley relay, 1000 free, and 200 free relay. Yale took 1st-4th on the women’s 3 meter, but 4th place finisher Talbott Paulsen was competing exhibition, so she didn’t score any points. On the men’s 1 meter, Christian DeVol edged out his teammate, Chris LeBalla, by 7 points.

Yale put a great pair of wins in the 1000 on day 1 as well, with Cailley Silbert putting up a 10:00.84 and Kei Hyogo posting a 9:05.82. Silbert’s time lands as both her 2nd fastest time of the season and the 2nd fastest time in the Ivy League this season. Her season best and conference-leading time of 9:58.61 was set back in November at the Ohio State Invite. Silbert actually holds the 3 fastest times in the Ivy League this season, with the #3 time coming from her 10:05.03 which she swam just 3 days earlier, on January 6th at Dartmouth. Hyogo’s time was also his 2nd fastest of the season, beating out his previous dual meet season best of 9:12.92 by 7 seconds. He also negative split the race 4:33.33/4:32.49. Kyogo’s season best time of 9:02.85 from the Ohio State Invite ranks 2nd in the Ivy League, and his time from this meet was the 4th fastest time in the Ivy League this season.

Hyogo continued into day 2 with 2 more dual meet season bests in the 400 IM and 500 free. Hyogo posted a 3:53.37 in the 400 IM, which was actually only the 3rd time he’s swum the event this season, and the first time at a dual meet. He went 3:44.73 at the Ohio State University invite, which is also his lifetime best. In the 500, Hyogo went 4:24.08, a dual meet best time which came in .81 seconds under his previous dual meet best time, which he set 3 days earlier at Dartmouth.

The biggest race of the meet came from Aaron Greenberg, who went a season best time and pool record of 19.57 in the 50 free. Greenberg’s previous season best time in the event was 19.67 from the OSU invite. Greenberg’s lifetime best in the event is 19.41, which he went at both the Ivy League Championships and NCAAs last year. Greenberg also posted a pretty quick 50.07 in the 100 IM, and split a 48.39 on the fly leg of the 400 medley relay.
