Aaron Shackell Puts Up 1:46.3 200 FR on Day 2 of Indy Sectionals

2024 INDY SPRING SECTIONALS

The 2nd day of the 2024 Indy Sectional meet saw Carmel Swim Club 19-year-old Aaron Shackell win the men’s 200 free decisively. Shackell, who spent the fall swimming for the Cal Golden Bears before returning to Carmel to prepare for the Olympic Trials this summer, clocked a 1:46.35 to win the race last night. That swim marks a new career best for the Olympic hopeful, putting him in the mix for at least the US men’s 4×200 relays this summer.

Alex Shackell, Aaron’s younger sister, won the women’s 100 fly in a new career best of 57.58. The 17-year-old clipped her previous best by 0.01 seconds. Her previous best of 57.59 was set the US Nationals last summer. Lakeside Swim Team 16-year-old Charlotte Crush came in 2nd with a 59.49, which is a little less than half a second off her personal best. Irish Aquatics 18-year-old Lily Christianson came in 3rd with a 59.54, marking her first time under 1:00 in her career. She also picked up a new Olympic Trials cut with the performance.

Indiana pro swimmer Bailey Andison, 26, won the women’s 400 IM in 4:43.04 last night, touching 1st by over 4 seconds. She was out in 1:05.14 on fly, went 1:12.38 on back, 1:19.75 on breast, and came home in 1:05.77 on free. She was less than 5 seconds off her career best of 4:38.66, which she swam back in June of 2021. Carmel Swim Club 16-year-old Molly Sweeney picked up a new Olympic Trials qualification in the event, taking 2nd in 4:47.25. That performance marked Sweeney’s first time under 4:50.

Carmel 17-year-old Gregg Enoch was excellent in the men’s 400 IM yesterday. He won the event in 4:20.42 in finals, however, that swim came after he clocked a huge lifetime best of 4:16.80 in prelims. His prelims swim was his first time under 4:50 in the event.
