ACC A Finalist 50 Freestyler Rebecca Moynihan Taking 5th Year at Florida State

Florida State’s Rebecca Moynihan will take advantage of the NCAA waiver that awards all athletes who competed in the 2020-2021 collegiate season an extra year of eligibility because of the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moynihan, who swam 2 seasons at FGCU, will be entering her 3rd season with the Seminoles.

Moynihan is a sprint freestyler, who has helped FSU greatly on relays. At the 2021 ACC Championships, Moynihan clocked lifetime bests of 22.38 and 49.26 in the 50 and 100 free respectively. She was an A finalist in the 50 free, placing 8th, and a B finalist in the 100 free, taking 10th. Moynihan also competed on FSU’s ACC Championships 200 free, 400 free, 200 medley, and 400 medley relays, posting a 21.65 split on the anchor of the 200 medley relay. At the 2020 ACC Champs, Moynihan was a member of the FSU 200 free and 200 medley relays.

While at FGCU, Moynihan was a 2x CCSA Swimmer of the Week. She also was a member of 3 CCSA Championships-winning relays. Individually, she recorded top 3 finishes in the 100 free both seasons, and top 5 finishes in the 50 free.

Here are Moynihan’s SCY personal bests:

  • 50 free – 22.36
  • 100 free – 49.26
  • 200 free – 1:51.06
  • 50 free (relay split) – 21.65

In October 2020, the NCAA granted all winter sport athletes the option to use an extra year of eligibility following complications from the COVID-19 pandemic. Under normal circumstances, Division I student-athletes have a 5-year window during which they can use up their four seasons of eligibility. However, given the current situation with COVID-19, student-athletes of all class years have been offered an additional season of eligibility, regardless of where they are in their 5-year window.
