ACC Announces 2015-16 All-Academic Women’s Swimming & Diving Team

The ACC has announced its All-Academic Women’s Swimming & Diving Team for the 2015-16 season.

From the ACC website: “Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.”

Louisville’s Kelsi Worrell won the ACC Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year after her twin NCAA titles in the 100 and 200 fly, among many other athletic accomplishments this season.

I would really like to know how swimmers are picked to the ACC Academic Women’s Swimming and Diving Team. I know the individual schools nominate swimmers, but from there who decides and based on what? Politics? Why are some swimmers overlooked? This seems to be an ongoing issue with the ACC’s. Why not just put every swimmer and diver on the list that deserves it?

I currently know of at least one swimmer whom has a 3.8 grade point average, placed in the top 8 at ACC’s in an individual event and went on to swim at NCAA’s, yet she is NOT on the list. How many other swimmers were overlooked? Why? Some swimmers on the list only made… Read more »

2 Things, if that swimmer you speak of isn’t taking a full load of classes and made the 3.8 then they are not eligible. OR they made a 3.8 this semester and did not bring their total GPA up over 3.0 (somewhat likely if they are an upperclassman) then they would not be eligible. It really has NOTHING to VERY LITTLE to how they do in the pool. As far as I know, no one is overlooked if they meet the criteria.
